Don’t Ignore These 5 Signs of Brake Failure

Brakes are one of those things we often take for granted. In fact, you probably don’t give them much thought at all until they start acting up! But once you start noticing problems with how your brakes are responding, don’t hesitate to bring your car to Joe’s Service Department for a checkup. We’ll diagnose the problem and have it fixed quickly. Here are five warning signs that your brakes are in need of a brake inspection.

Schedule a Brake Inspection

1. Loud, screeching sounds.

That awful sound? This is the very first warning sign that your brake pads are failing. The car’s brake pads are designed to create this noise to warn you that your brakes are about to eat away your pads and get to your rotors. Save time and money on brake rotor replacement by bringing your car to our Indianapolis repair shop before metal-on-metal damage occurs.

2. Grinding noises when applying pressure to brakes.

Once the pads peel away, your brake rotors are now in danger wearing down. If you’ve just noticed this grinding noise, it may not be too late to salvage your rotors with a simple brake pad replacement. Bring your car in as soon as possible for a brake inspection.

3. Shaking when coming to a complete stop.

If you’ve encountered vibrations (light or heavy), you may have a misaligned rotor or pad, or your rotors may have failed completely. At this stage, you’re in fairly dangerous territory, as you are well beyond hearing the sounds that are engineered to warn you of a problem.

4. Braking requires more or less pressure.

The need to apply more or less pressure could be the result of anything from the complete failure of your master cylinder to the loss of brake fluid. Get it checked out immediately.

5. Your vehicle pulls when you apply brake pressure.

Anything from broken calipers to a failing hose can cause your vehicle to pull from one side to the other when braking. You’ll not only feel the vehicle pull, you’ll also feel it in the pedal.

Your braking system is the first line of defense against a major accident or catastrophe. Don’t let these symptoms go untreated for a long period of time without brake repairs. Contact Joe’s Service Department at (317) 405-8456 today to schedule your appointment.
